Build A Miracle
Build A Miracle
What's new!
May 2010

Dear Friends,
We have been so blessed by you and your support of Build A Miracle.  WE
HAVE SO MUCH TO SHARE!

In 2009 BAM completed 14 new homes and expanded the education
programs at the El Florido community center, in spite of a significant drop in
donations.  Fourteen (14) families escaped the cold and insecurity that comes
with poverty.  They now have new hope and the confidence that all of the BAM
families find after just a short time in their new homes.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

FAMILIES NEED A SAFE HOME

We are planning to build homes for the next  four families on our long waiting
list.  The cost is $48,000 to complete all four homes.  Remember, that's just
$30 per square foot  and every square foot represents a MAJOR change in
somebody's life!

If you have a group, or want to stat a group that would like to sponsor a home,
40 people need to raise only $300 each and THAT will pay for home.  A little
goes a long way when we work together!

ONGOING SUPPORT FOR EDUCATION

The El Florido Community Center is flourishing.  Thanks to so many of the
high school and college students on BAM scholarships who teach and tutor
without a salary, and community volunteers who organize classes, and events,
we are able to offer 12 classes and activities every week.

On a budget of $2,000 per month, we offer the following to over 260 people:

- Tutoring - Spanish - English - Math - PC lab - Art - Dance - Music
- Cooking - Nutrition - Sewing - Carpentry - Counseling - Family Workshop

Plus an accredited adult school!

Thanks for helping make this all possible.

With love from Chris, Julianne, Adolfo, and all of the Build A Miracle families!
266 kids and parents are tutored, attend classes, or
receive counseling each week at the community
center.

$450 is the average amount needed to sponsor high
school for one year.

$1,200 is the average cost to sponsor a college
student for one year.

$100 is the average cost to sponsor a teacher per
month.

We have dozens of motivated high school and
college age students who need a bit of financial aid
to realize the dream of a bright future.

Call or e-mail if you would like to sponsor a student or
teacher AND get to know the star you help to shine!

Selene Romero always dreamed of helping others, in
spite of a chioldhood characterized by poverty and
despair.  Thanks to scholarships for high school and
college, she received a degree in psychology.  Now
she teaches and counsels at the community center.
Thanks to "Sr. Jack", a BAM supporter, she has made
it this far and will be studying for a master's degree.
Helper Highlights
Twelve Cathedral High School sophomores gave up a Sunday in April to get
dirty - thanks to them we poured TWO pads in record time!
Three St. Gregory Faith Formation classes raised enough money to take over
300 BAM kids and parents to the movies, many for the first time!
Did you know that every home is furnished, paid in full, by one friend of BAM
from Laguna Beach?  MANY thanks to her for caring so deeply... each family
receives a warm bed, a fridge to keep food cold, a table to gather around as a
family, a sink with a faucet instead of a bucket for doing dishes, a stove
instead of an open fire for cooking, cabinets, a sofa, and more.  GRACIAS from
each and every BAM family!
St Gregory parishioners once again funded SIX homes at the annual
Christmas campaign.
Sergio, from home #50, will now BUILD the cabinets for every home as he
starts his own business and teaches carpentry to BAM youth.  Thanks, Jack,
for getting him started!

Two Scripps Ranch high school seniors raised funds for their senior
projects.
Brendan Nichols held a fund raiser at Rubio's, raised over $600,
AND gathered friends and family to help build.
Mackenzie Forrey cut hair and
gave 100% of the proceeds ($500) to pay the annual high school tuition for
Cynthia in home #95.  Great job Brendan and Mackenzie!
